Let’s talk about AI again, because the conversation keeps getting flattened into good or evil.

AI can be genuinely useful. It can help you research. It can help you organize your thoughts. It can help you plan things out. Used that way, it’s a tool, same as any other.

If you’ve ever used a filter in Photoshop or any photo editor, you’ve used AI. Most of us use it in some form every day without thinking about it.

But there’s a big difference between that and AI generating the music and the art for you. One helps a person make something. The other replaces the person. That’s the line we care about at Morella Records.

And the platform you’re reading this on? It runs on AI almost from top to bottom, and everything we post here helps train it. So it’s a little funny when the loudest objections come from inside the machine.

It’s ok to use a tool but you must make the work yourself.

Someone told me fifteen dollars for a sixteen track album was too much. That’s under a dollar a track on Bandcamp, cheaper than buying one song by itself off iTunes.

Meanwhile the record behind those prices took three months, six days a week, sixteen hour days, to record, mix and master.
